Llamas and Miniature Donkeys
Lla
At Tyfton Acres, in the Sandhills of N.C., we are breeding llamas and miniature donkeys with excellent conformation, sound health, and gentle temperaments so that they can be loving additions to their forever families. We have acquired the very best stock and have waited for them to reach maturity so that we can provide animals for show, fiber, packing, driving, therapy, 4-H, guarding livestock, or companionship. Our goal at Tyfton Acres is to provide animals that are reasonably priced and affordable for the middle-income family or hobby farmer. We are keeping our herd small so that we can provide hands-on care and training that each animal needs to fufill this purpose. Our animals are loved daily by the children and adults here at Tyfton Acres.

About Us About Us: Charles and Ann Wheeler
While visiting with the neat folks at Elevenses Llamas and Miniature Donkeys in Rougemont, N.C., we met our first Muscovy ducks. We acquired our first ducks to rid our pasture of the dreaded meningeal worm, carried by white tail deer, which can be deadly for llamas. Muscovies are excellent foragers and make wonderful mothers. We have also added a flock of heritage Indian Runner ducks. These ducks are on the ALBC's "watch list" and we hope to help add to the numbers of these comical ducks. Our ducks have added many hours of entertainment to
our farm life.
We are both retired after thirty years in correctional work and teaching. Our days are filled with volunteer work, our grandchildren, and now, our wonderful animals. We love sharing our time and love of a rural life with others. Call and come by to spend time with our blessings all wrapped up in fiber, fur, and feathers!
Our dream began several years ago when a young, white, male llama was entered into the Richmond County Agricultural Fair sponsored by the Hamlet Lion's Club, where we serve as members. After being kissed by the little llama for a week, the memories of a fourth grade Social Studies unit on Peru featuring a llama just would not go away. So began our journey into the world of llamas and
"llama people".
While turning our five acres into "Llama Land" we discovered miniature Mediterranean donkeys. We visited with Joseph Standridge, right here at home in Hamlet, and six-month-old Nycodemus came to live at Tyfton Acres. Donkeys are like llamas, you can't have just one.....so enter the girls or jennys as female donkeys are called.
Our llamas and donkeys are loved daily by Tyfton's adults and four grandchildren.

Ducks Ducks Tyfton Acres ducks are a
free-ranging and humanely raised flock.
Indian Runners
Muscovy Ducks
Indian Runner ducks are a heritage breed and are on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy's "watch" list. The SPPA has them on their 2008 Waterfowl Critical List. These comical ducks are excellent foragers and prolific layers.
See Sale Barn for available ducklings!
Muscovy ducks are wonderful foragers, are very quiet, can fly to avoid predators, and are terrific mothers. They may raise as many as three clutches per season. The meat from this duck is very lean and is a good alternative to beef.
Ducklings expected early spring!

Farm News
Bourban Red Turkeys
Our big boy has started strutting!
At only seven months of age, Sabboth is a beauty and he and his two hens entertain the entire farm with their antics.
Who would ever know that poultry could be so much fun!
Angora Goats
In the fall we added two delightful Angora goats to our farm! Malachy( left) and Cottyn (right) are so loving and full of personality. They have become favorites and contribute so much to farm life here at Tyfton Acres. Their mohair will be a welcome addition to our alpaca and llama fiber for felting, spinning, and weaving.
Abraham...Our new Oberhasli Goat!
For his seventh birthday, our grandson, Chase, asked for a "doat" and so Abraham has come to live at Tyfton Acres! Oberhasli are milk goats orininating in Switzerland. They are listed as "recovering" on the ALBC breeds list. The American Goats Registry has less than 500 of these goats registered. Abraham is in the spotlight now at Tyfton!
Holderread Penciled Runners!
We have two new Penciled Runners from Holderread stock added to our flock of Indian Runners. These beautiful upright boys will be bred to our shiny black hens to hopefully produce a new and improved
version of our runner babies.
Look for hatching news in the spring of 2012. We can't wait!!!

Early Spring!
In Memory Clean Sweep was our first herdsire, purchased from a Shangrila breeding from Elevenses to sire our farm babies. Sadly, we lost him in late 2010. His baby fleece won a second place at the Southeastern Fiber Fair in Fletcher, N.C. He was gentle and loved by all at Tyfton Acres. He was an excellent guard and not one duck was lost under his care! Tyfton Acres is not the same without him.
Bojangles meets Nycodemus for the first time. It was HATE at first sight.
All of the neighborhood children and, each year, Ann's school children spent time on this wonderful, even-tempered horses's back.
We lost Bojangles , who had been with us for 28 years, in late October of 2010.
Rest in peace old man........you are sorely missed.
Assyria left us on October 6, 2011 while trying to give birth to a little black foal that we had been dreaming about for a long year. We lost the mother and the baby and our hearts are crushed. Thank you little one for trying so hard......you and your dream baby are sadly missed here at Tyfton Acres.
